Yoga and Dance Instructor
From big city to mountain top, Nanci Traynor is motivated by the belief that the performing arts are vital and necessary to the human experience. She is deeply interested in how ritual, sound and dance explore the mystery and exhilaration of human relationships-the myriad aspects of our relationship to self, to each other, our world and to the spiritual structure of our universe.
Not knowing where she will end up or how to get back home, Nanci left The United States for India with only a one way ticket and the clothes on her back. While in India she lived and learned all aspects of yoga, culture and Sanskrit through the guru kula system deep in the jungle of Kerala. After spending a year with her beloved teacher she went to the coast of Karanataka to live in a cave and deepen her Sadhana. Later she moved top side to the ancient Devi temple and went farther into her hermitage.
Nanci has traveled many ancient trade routes throughout the world. As she retraced these prehistoric human pathways she has studied the culture and dances of these areas including; North Africa, West Africa, Persia, Capoeria of Brazil, Mohiniyattyam. Nanci has also studied the mental and physical healing aspects of dance with Anna Halprin at Stanford University.
Nanci brings a rare blend of philosophical study, artistic pursuits and a highly disciplined asana and meditation practice to her students as a teacher. Currently she is teaching Hot, Flow (Iyengar inspired-focus on balancing the Doshas) and Yoga dance (a first in China)—a delicious blend of world dances, self exploration and yoga.
