Yoga Thailand
About Yoga Thailand
Yoga Thailand is situated on a tree rich space nearly an acre in size and borders on to the beach. The heart of Yoga Thailand is the room for yoga practice, the Yoga Shala, yet it is supported and fed by the Retreat Center. "Who we are" has outlined how it came to be. Our main focus is to teach yoga to those sincere and interested. In understanding that yoga and its practice is about how we live, then in one sense teaching in the shala and providing an appropriate environment for one to live, eat, practice, grow and relax in is all part of "just teaching yoga".
Once it became clear that this was home and we would provide the accommodation, food and the environment for students, without it becoming an ashram, we set about to complete the vision. In fact, it has been a joyful process to transform the rooms and garden, create an outdoor shala for our dining and socializing and give birth to the Namaste House.. And Mother Nature has provided the palm trees, beach and turquoise sea (everything actually !!). Still at the heart of all this pulses the Yoga Shala.
We are proud to be the only place on Ko Samui that is smoke, drug and alcohol free. There are plenty of places around the island for that. We love our clean air and tranquility that has been created and leads to an inner upliftment without unnecessary distractions yet full opportunity to go out and shop, explore and more.!:)
About the Retreats :
Yoga Thailand has been established by dedicated and experienced yoga practitioners and teachers. Its aim is to keep a high standard of yoga practice and teaching with integrity. Both Paul, Jutima and the rest of the team are regularly in India, devoting time to growth and practice. Paul is one of the few authorised by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois to teach. They also bring in well-qualified and experienced visiting teachers so the energy and teaching is kept true and powerful. Add this to the beautiful nature, delicious and healthy food and a peaceful and restorative environment and it really is "re-treat".
Yoga Thailand has an ongoing teaching schedule all year round. At certain times of the year retreats are held either by Paul, Harmony and Jeff, Neil and Jessica or visiting teachers. During non-retreat times there is a regular daily class schedule.
Yoga Retreats:
Our team of teachers lead different yoga retreats throughout the year covering various topics related to yoga and health. The purpose is to introduce you to a wide range of topics that influence your everday life and can help you to improve your well-being. Our hope is that you can take away from what you have learnt during the retreat and incorporate it to your life back at home. All levels are welcome.

Additional: Of major importance in the practice of yoga is food. We have taken this to heart here. Our cooks are Thai and trained in Indian, Thai and European cooking. The focus is predominantly vegetarian but we do make eggs and fish available for those who wish a few times a week. We keep certain pans separate for these. Cleanliness and hygiene are of utmost importance to us.

Yoga Retreats
Ashtanga Vinyasa is a beautiful yet thorough approach to asana practice. It is rooted in a solid tradition and carries with it this strength of thousands of years. Ashtanga is the father of so many approaches today. It masterfully presents the asanas and lets the students move through them growing and undoing the blocks they encounter. It incorporates the movement with breath, a unique science in its own right. Its real advantage is that it gives the student a practice and something to always progress and develop in.
This is an opportunity to deepen and further your practice or to come and begin it properly. We have absolute beginners to seasoned practitioners join us. Paul and the teachers are highly experienced in this practice and specifically authorised to teach it by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois.
The morning session will focus on the ashtanga practice. In the afternoons there will be a special workshop dealing with specific aspects of the practice and your questions, followed by a special class on restorative asanas. In the evening is an optional program the group will decide usually followed by meditation.
The food and environment along with the practice lend to the whole yoga experience, so it is more than just time on the mat, but an experience that restores and invigorates you.
Developing Your Yoga Practice
Whether you are brand new to yoga, or you have been practicing yoga for years, developing a personal “self-practice” is a very effective way to deepen your experience with yoga. All levels of students are encouraged to participate.
Each student will gain confidence in their own yoga asana practice with a ‘partially guided’ led class or a traditional Mysore style class. Breath-work exercises will provide an introduction to pranayama and create an awareness of the importance of the breath on and off the mat.
We will offer discussions on the nature of yoga, and how these practices can be integrated into one’s daily life. Many topics can be discussed and may include: asana tips and techniques, overcoming mental and physical barriers, and how our practices on the mat can be a mirror for daily living.
The practices learned during this retreat will help to promote confidence and create independence as students build their personal yoga practice and develop the tools for continued personal growth. All levels of students are welcome to join this retreat, from first time students to seasoned practitioners.
Deepen Your Yoga Practice:
1. Yoga Philosophy - Exploring Yamas and Niyamas 2. Continue to grow your asana practice 3. Grow the breathwork practices into the first level of pranayama
Whether you are continuing on from the “Developing your Yoga” retreat or participating in your first yoga class, all levels of students are welcome to join this retreat. This retreat will help you build confidence in your personal practices and also provide a more focused investigation of Yoga as an empowering philosophy for living.
Most Yoga practice today, primarily focuses on “asana” or postures. By taking a look at the first four limbs of this “eight-limbed” path, students can deepen their practice and expand their knowledge of yoga, and learn how to integrate these teachings more fully into their lives.
Discussions on the first two limbs, the “yama-s” (respect for others) and “niyama-s” (respect for oneself), will provide an introduction to this wonderful part of the yogic tradition. Practical integration of some of these behaviours into our practice of yoga and more importantly into all aspects of living will be emphasized.
Students will have the opportunity to deepen their asana practice in either a Mysore style class, or in a ‘partially guided’ yoga class, based on the traditional teaching method of Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois. Students will also be introduced to an introductory level pranayama practice.
All levels of students are welcome to join this retreat, from first time students to seasoned practitioners.
Pranayama and Ashtanga Yoga Retreat: - develop the breath practice (Pranayama)
The focus of these programs is to build on to the asana practice a regular and well informed practice of pranayama and meditation. Pranayama uses the breath and the entire respiratory system to purify and strengthen the nerves which leads to greater control of the senses and a subsequent calmer and clearer mind, not just when sitting but throughout the day, when practiced consistently for a long time. Here is the opportunity to be introduced and grow through these techniques in a supportive environment. Paul has practiced and been trained to a high level in these practices under one of the few remaining authorities in pranayama, O.P. Tiwari. Tiwariji has only taught the complete pranayama to Paul and one other student.
