Clare Island Retreat Centre
Yoga and meditation retreat centre located on an island off the Mayo coast, in Ireland. Very peaceful location with stunning views over Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick. The accommodation is in a renovated island cottage and its modern extension, and the 50 sqm yoga studio is in a modern timber building nearby. The center is an eco-friendly development with solar water heating, wood burning stoves for space heating, and plenty of natural light. The food is strictly vegetarian and organic or local produce or used whenever possible.
We offer a variety of courses for all levels with resident and visiting teachers.
Off season, the centre may be rented for groups of 5 to 15 people, and it may be possible for individual to stay (self catering or vegetarian B&B).

Clare Island Retreat Centre offers various yoga and meditation courses and workshops. Among the courses and workshops set for 2005, are the following:
Ashtanga yoga retreat with Danny Paradise on Clare Island. Ireland, 25th - 30th June 2005 Danny Paradise has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for 30 years and teaching worldwide for the past 24 years. He teaches all levels of students and teachers and was in one of the earliest groups of westerners to learn all the classical sequences of Ashtanga Yoga. Since 1982 he has had the good fortune of introducing Ashtanga Yoga throughout the world. He is happy to introduce the form to beginners or teach the advanced sequences to experienced practitioners. Many people he has taught are teachers now and have their own schools. He's also introduced the Ashtanga forms to many people who were Yoga teachers in other traditions and styles. Danny will be teaching with Reema Datta. Reema was born into a family of Yogis and is the author of "Sacred Sanskrit Words" (with Leze Lowitz). Course The course start on the evening of the 25th with dinner and a short introductory talk. A typical day on the course begins at 9.00 am with a 3 hours yoga session. A healthy brunch follows the morning yoga class. The rest of the day is free to explore the island (which offers excellent hillwalking), read, or just relax. There will be a pranayama class on one afternoon. A gourmet vegetarian 3 course dinner is served at 6.30 pm. Please note: This course is only suitable for students with some experience of ashtanga yoga
Yoga workshop on Clare Island with Rossella Baroncini The teacher Rossella Baroncini was born and lives in Florence where she trained as a yoga teacher. She has been teaching classes, workshops and private lessons since 1987. Rossella is a direct long time student of Vanda Scaravelli (author of Awakening the Spine, 1991). She started to study with her in 1983 at the age of 26 having individual lessons until 1999. Rossella is continuing to explore the teaching she have received, from many years of practice and relationship with Vanda, maintaining her simplicity and freedom. The workshop This workshop is designed for already experienced yoga pratictioners (with at least two years regular practice). Yoga teachers are welcome too. There will be 5 hours of yoga every day, 3 hours in the early morning, and 2 hours before dinner.
Yoga and meditation courses on Clare Island This course is for those who seriously want to build (or boost) their own home yoga / meditation practice. The day starts with a meditation session, followed by a 2 hours yoga class, usually starting with some yin yoga, then followed by a more dynamic (ashtanga based) class, sometimes as a led class, sometimes as a self practice, and sometimes a combination of both. A healthy brunch of fruit juice, home made bread, muesli, porridge and local cheese follows the morning yoga session. You then have some free time to explore the island, read, or just relax before the afternoon class, focusing on specific asanas, and generally including some pranayama (breathing), meditation or yoga theory. A gourmet vegetarian 3 course dinner follows the evening class. Time table for the course: 8.30 am Meditation 9.00 am Yoga class 11.30 am Brunch, then free time for hill walking, reading, relaxing 4.00 pm Yoga class 6.30 pm Dinner 8.30 pm Silent meditation (optional) A lot of other courses, retreats and workshops are available. You can definitely find one that suits your budget and skill level.
