The Teacher
Carol (nickname ‘Norm’) originally trained with the British Wheel of Yoga (teaching Diploma, and Yoga for Pregnancy module), and later at Mandala Yoga Ashram with Swami Neel Kamal Saraswati, and Swami Nishchalananda Saraswati.
She has a special interest in yoga for therapeutic purposes, and especially as a tool for developing our potential. She is currently undertaking further studies in Yoga Therapy with the Yoga Biomedical Trust. From personal experience Norm has found yoga to be a powerful and practical method of self-transformation - developing harmony of body, mind, and spirit.
She finds teaching to be a wonderful opportunity for her to share the benefits of yoga with others, and the setting of a retreat to be particularly conducive to going deeper in the theory and practice of yoga than is normally possible in a class situation.
Who is it suitable for?
The hatha yoga (postures and breathwork) in this retreat will require a reasonable amount of fitness and flexibility – if you have done yoga in a regular class before you should have no problems. Do speak to me if you are a beginner and you are not sure if it would be suitable for you. There are stairs to the bedrooms and the Barn Studio, and the venue is not wheelchair accessible.
The Venue
Nab Cottage was first built in 1565, and extended in 1702. Some original parts still exist. There is a lounge with a log fire, a piano, and creaking floorboards! The Barn has been fully converted into a studio, and there is also a small cosy room at the top of the barn, which can be used for meditation.
Accommodation
All bedrooms are twin or double, and there is one family en-suite room which has a double bed and bunks and can accommodate three people at a squeeze. If you and a friend wish to share a room please let me know. Some rooms are en-suite – first come first served!
The Programme
This year's theme is the Pancha Tattwas (‘The Five Elements’) as this is something I have been exploring and would like to share.
All sessions will be optional, and you will be able to choose from chanting, meditation, pranayama (breathwork), talks and discussions, posture work, and relaxation.
Equipment
There will be a limited supply of yoga mats, blocks, and straps available to use, but please bring your own if you can. It is also advisable to bring a warm layer of clothes or a blanket for use during relaxation. Remember to wear layers that can be removed as you get warmer – the Barn studio is wood stove heated and there can be cold spots.
If you are intending to go for walks remember to bring suitable footwear and waterproof clothing.
The Cost

Nearby Attractions:
Nab Cottage is in the heart of the English Lake District. Rydal lake is in front of the cottage, and the hills are behind - the views are breathtaking. There will be some free time after Saturday lunch so you can explore the area - there are several easy walks, and some not so easy walks! The course finishes after Sunday lunch, so again there is time to explore.
