Hello.
I''ve been practicing yoga on an off for about a year and a half now and came across Kundalini Yoga online. The info is very vague on it''s dangers if "used the wrong way" or if one is not ready? Very cryptic.
What does this mean? What specifically would be the wrong away to approach practicing Kundalini?
Lastly, please advise of a good way to get started with this. My objectives are to clearly my mind, increase my focus and well being.
Thank you!

You are a beginner in yoga;why do you want to know about kundalini. You better concentrate on whatever you are doing,or else on pranayam. You should not be afraid of kundalini. It is not something that harms any body doing yoga. And most of these people who talk of kundalini have no experience of it.Let it be clear, kundalini yoga is not harmful,if you climb the height in the usual course. But even in yoga postures,if you overdo,or try to bend your leg,e.g.,in unnatural way,you are bound to suffer fracture and pain.Same is true of kunadalini,or,for that matter any dicipline. So you need not bother about what people say about it.If you have some specific questions about it,you are welcome.

Thanks Vir.
The yoga I'm currently doing focuses more on postures, balance, etc. Kundalini is something I was considering trying to remove any energy blockages, have a more meditative experience, etc.
I appreciate your help.

Postures may help very little.Practice pranayam.Practice it regularly, empty stomach,if possible,as long as you are comfortable with.Pranayam is the key;it is key to yourself;it is key to meditation;it is key to health, wealth, peace and happiness.Pranayam is key to confidence, courage, and fearlessness;it is the road to bliss. It is key to Mother Kundalini;it is key to Divinity,to God.

Thanks Vir. You speak very highly of it. I will begin with pranayam.
I've read some of the information on this site. If you have any ideas on selecting an instructor or know of a good way to get started, let me know.
Blessings to you for the knowledge you offer.

You can start with simple deep breathing but thinking and emotions are more important.Be there mentally and physically, and let Divinity enter you with Prana/breath.You can really call God with each breath, and with all involvement and emotions,as a child in need calls/cries for mother. You will start having different feelings in days.Never be scared of that feeling. When you remove dirt from within which is there since years, you are bound to have different feelings/impact on your body and mind. But feel yourself in the lap of mother,in the lap of God,and make a total surrender.More the surrender and devotion to the process, and to Divinity, faster will be results. Then gradually start reciting AUM,uttering it as long as you can with your breath and stamina, with the same emotions and devotion.Read my comments and quotes on this site, especially in 'breathing techniques',where I have given some simple exercises too.I do not recomend a teacher, because most of them take Pranayam as a physical exercise/process alone, which it is not.Make God your guide, sit before the photo of whatever God you believe in,if you feel like. That may increase your surrender and emotional level.None can guide,if God cannot.Be sure of that.I am there to help, but,I have no doubt, that soon you will be on the path to bliss, and will be exhorting others to follow this simple path to Divinity.I will let you know specific Pranayam Techniques as you proceed on the path. But those are matters of details, not of essence.Wish you all the best.

Udgeeth Pranayam

Procedure : Inhalation and exhalation should be long, slow, soft and subtle. Inhale slowly and when ready to exhale, chant Om slowly and steadily. With practice, lengthen each breath to one-minute, that is, to say inhalation and exhalation should total one-minute of time. Visualize the breath entering and moving inside the body.

"We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that
reveals the human spirit."

I think what the article is referring to is that if you "activate" your kundalini this can be very dangerous for someone who does not know how to handle all that energy. Simply put, we are energy and our "kundalini" (similar to what in the East they refer to as Chi) is moving through our chakra portals but for most, it is not activated as much as it would be if you practiced yoga in a certain way (as taught by some Kundalini instructors) It is true that if you are not ready and activate "that" kundalini, you are in for quite a ride. But to practice general kundalini yoga, you should be fine. Your intuition will guide you and although we are talking semantics, just know that if you came across something that could hurt you, your gut will tell you right away.

As long as as you have trust in nature, and move on the path in natural way,no harm is possible.Do not go by what the agents selling Kundalini package say, believe in self and God.And never try to do overdo anything.
