The winter solstice is the day of greatest darkness each year, after which the hours of light will gradually grow, taking us to the rebirth of the natural world in the spring.
Check in with how you are feeling at this time. Many of us tend to feel despair, depression, lost or confused. We may feel we have reached a turning point where our strength recedes or declines. Such is the cycle of birth and death, elation and melancholy, strength and weakness.
The harmony of change.
Nature draws inward at this time and this is a good time for us to draw inward as well, to find meditation, to ground, soften and receive. Ironically, this is the time of year when culturally we are drawn outward, bombarded by amped up advertising, shopping, parties, food.
With yoga we can find a balance, an appreciation and thankfulness for the cycles we live in.
If you are feeling stressed or overrun by the holidays, I encourage you to take the time to draw inward, into the stillness of this time, embrace it as an opportunity for introspection, renewal and transformation. Align with the inward gaze of the season, connect to peace and inner wisdom. As such you will be planting the seeds of transformation for the coming year, the return to the light, the warmth, the sun.
