Vanu,
I have been pondering this great question all afternoon. It would take people becoming compassionate and perhaps egoless, and a spirit of cooperation on a global scale. But a good place to start is everyone individually acting compassionate and acting like our individual decisions matter for the greater good.

happy feet,
i love your screen name. i respectfully wonder about your comments that i made to this great question. i see compassion as the only way, and no matter what your religion or spiritual system is, that is the bottom line of all great teachings!
namaste and om shanti,

my dear friends, i have some solutions, as my part, i am trying to save the earth by doing these (i have already started)-
do not use car, if you are able to walk that distance. do not use paper towels in the kitchen. instead use kitchen cloth towels. feed the birds daily( a little bit) plant vegetables at your home garden, if you don't have backyard much, plant them in plantholders. do not waste water or electricity. try to use solar cookers, solar cars. daily do breathing exercises, that gives you power to eat enough food, not excessive. recycle and reuse plastics. comments and suggestions are welcome.

i think hotels should give the tons and tons of leaftovers to the poor. In highly industrialzed countries they just throw it away eh.
Also i realy realy recommend that the STUDY, and research and development on rice and rice production and other staple foods should be the high concern for governments...

thanks for the suggestions, i have been to lots of parties like birthdays, anniversaries etc. it would be nice if at least one member per family could donate something to homeless on behalf of their festivals, if parents do that like role models, children will follow them.

i totally agree with that.
everyone should do thier part. i mean i know that are alot of people there who just throw away thier left overs
i think there should be a program, like a group of people would collect left overs from different homes and then cooks them again to be made into a new dish. I've seen alot of chef and people do that. So the poor families or less fortunate people can at least enjoy a meal. :D
