Just curious about what everyones opinion is on hypnosis?  There are many CD'S, and even MP3's you can buy/download on the internet of recorded hypnosis.  Has anyone tried this before?  Would you try it?  I just bought a set of hypnosis cd's just to see for myself what they are about, and how they work.  They seem closely linked to Meditation.  Thanks!

Warmly,
Sara Dawn

Wow- I think we are on the same path----

I started trying alternative methods to improve my health last year--  I've tried hypnosis- but it didnt do it for me like NLP- (Neuro Linguistic Programming).  Hypnosis and NLP both use a similar "trance like state" to acheive their results.

Anyway, I guess NLP either works for some or doesnt- and for me it has worked wonders!!    Using this technique-  I found that I had the power in me to make changes that I wanted to change- It showed me that I had the resources to change a bad response I might have (mental or physical one) to a positive one.    This is actually one way I was able to find peace from the guilt I had with losing my Dad.

Before finding NLP, I had gone to one form of a "talky" doctor to another for over 10 years-I had been with the last one for about 5.5 years-- well-- in 2 months of weekly NLP sessions--- my life began to change.  My mind felt free, the weights lifted from my shoulders---  I continued to get some fine tuning done in the months that followed- and will be again in the near future--  it's almost like I am systematically putting things back together-- and I am finding that I can wake up each day feeling happy that the morning has come and I am alive to enjoy it.

I do think that yoga helped tie everything together on a daily basis---I also got allergy elimination treatments (vials/with a practictioner in the same clinic), but the NLP definately helped me realize that if there is something I wanted to change--- I could indeed change it.

I'm very passionate about all of this because it has truely changed my life- (disclaimer:  I was under the care of an MD and a nurse when I was going through this- so I am not advocating anyone stop their meds without doc supervision)-- but after needing medication for 10+ years-I am now med free and feel better than ever!

I havent figured out how to send you a personal message... but if you would like to talk more about this let me know.  There are some cool books you can get to learn more about this if you are interested too.

Have a great morning!!

Benda

That sounds great Benda, I'm so happy you found something so natural that works for you.  I am not too familiar with NLP, could you explain what it is breifly?  It sounds interesting.  And, you said your off your meds totally?  I bet your Dad is looking down so happy to see that your able to live more of  prescription free lifestyle, as I know you mentioned he didn't understand this in the past.

Warmly,
Sara Dawn

Hello!

Yup, I'm off all my meds--- at one time I was on 6 of them - some mental, some thyroid and another for hormone support.  In addition to the NLP, I do think the yoga, non-traditional allergy ellimination and NMT have helped to get me med free

I'll post more about NLP,  some links and books that I've found helpful after work sometime today- I can link to allergy and NMT stuff too.  NMT = neuro modulation technique and I cant help but think of Marvin the Martian when I say that (hee hee)

I think my Dad did understand that at the time, I needed those meds- but just wanted the best for me.  I do feel like he is my special angel now and is always with me.

Talk to you later!

Sorry its taken so long to write back! Work got busy.

First of all, I am not an NLP expert but someone who has used NLP to work on and solve some big issues I had in my life.  For me, it worked- for others it might not.  I went into it with and open mind and had a "I have nothing to lose" attitude.  I think that for the part of NLP that is like hypnosis- I was willing to explore that state of being - and was curious what it could do for me.

If you google NLP you will find a mixed bag about whether or not it works. All I can tell you is that for me- it worked and is still working.  For me- I now choose NLP over hypnosis or traditional phycho-therepy.  I've never felt better-- and I believe NLP was one of the keys that unlocked the door to my well-being.

With that:  NLP= Neuro Linguistic Programming.  I found a site that defined it easiest and it contained a story that illustrated a learned response and how NLP could be used to change it.  (I learned through a similar story)
Read more at: http://holisticonline.com/hol_neurolinguistic.htm
"The basic premise of NLP is that the words we use reflect an inner, subconscious perception of our problems. If these words and perceptions are inaccurate, they will create an underlying problem as long as we continue to use and to think them. Our attitudes are, in a sense, a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The neuro linguistic therapist will analyze every word and phrase you use in describing your symptoms or concerns about your health. He or she will  examine your facial expressions and body movements. After determining problems in your perception, the therapist will help you understand the root cause. The therapist will help you remodel your thoughts and mental associations in order to fix your preconceived notions. These preconceived notions may be keeping you from achieving the success you deserve.

NLP will help you get out of these unhealthy traits and replace them with positive thoughts, and patterns that promote wellness."

The rest of that page is a good place to start.  But the cool thing about this-- is that after going through the process, you can learn that the answers you seek are all inside you-hidden in the subconscious, developed by experiences and feelings of past events.  You learn that you can substitute those ill/poor feelings for new ones- and re-map how you think about the particular event in your life that had been causing you trouble.  I quickly learned that I was able to change feelings I had since I was a young girl by using these techniques!  (I haven't forgotten them- but now- they are something that is just a part of me- and do not affect me like they used to).

A book that my NLP Practitioner recommends is Frogs into Princes.  He has been very enthusiastic about this particular book and I have just started reading it after finding it here:   http://www.scribd.com/doc/50215/Frogs-Into-Princes

Another book that I got (another of his recommendations):
Core Transformation, Reaching the Wellness Within
:
 http://www.amazon.com/Core-Transformation-Reaching-Wellspring-Within/dp/0911226338
was very cool because I started it after I had done about 8 NLP sessions.  It was exciting to read about what I was experiencing during my sessions. It provided more validation for me that "it was working" and also explained more of how and what was going on that enabled me to achieve the results I wanted.

There are tons of sites out there that talk about NLP- one place to start is: http://www.nlpinfo.com/

I hope this is a good start---

YAY!
Have a great day!!!

Ahhh so much good information!  I've begun looking through one of the websites.  It looks so great.  I can see some of the differences between Hypnosis and NLP.  How did you find an instructor?  It seems like it may not be too easy to find a certified instructor, but I'm going to look.  Also it sounds expensive, is it?  Thank you thank you so much!  Namaste

Warmly,
Sara Dawn

Good questions!

I would say that for people out there thinking about trying this--- finding the right NLP person would be key.  I was extremely lucky finding the person I go.  It was made easier as he was in the same clinic as the AEE (advanced allergy elimination) guy (who said he did great work), he was very enthusiastic about NLP, he gave me like a 20+minute "infomercial" of what NLP was and threw in some chiropractic for FREE too-- it  ended up being a great way for me to go and do some  "one stop shopping" for my health.

As for cost- I paid 80$ for an hour-- but- I think that was a good cost for me.   Since he also did chiropractic, many times my session would include adjustments and cranial sacral work too!

I'd like to write some specifics on what I would look for when trying to find an NLP person-- but it will have to wait until after yoga tonight

I'm not sure where you are located, but if you have any wellness magazines that are in the freebie newstands like at Whole Foods, Wild Oats or Trader Joes, sometimes they have wellness fairs advertised in them where you can go and sample the people in your area that do alternative methods for physical and mental health.

I'll write back later my opinions about what might make someone a better fit than another.... Until then, I hope you are having a fabulous day!
