So what are peoples thoughts on all the Yoga fads circling around right now?
Water bottles with symbols Yoga panties Yoga shirts Karma clothes
I do admit that I have one Yoga T-Shirt that I purchased while out on travel in Reno but only because the shirt had the owners dog in cartoon form performing a pose ... thought that matched my personality to a tee.
Give thoughts, let us know other gear, and what have you purchased?
Personally, I don't really like all the yoga merchandise that is out there. I didn't even know there were yoga panties (?!?!? why!) I think that wearing yoga symbols like a badge is rather anti-yoga but that's just me. I do have one t-shirt by Life is Good with their little stick guy sitting in lotus pose so I guess I can't knock it too much.
I don't know why anyone would want or need a water bottle with symbols on it. It all seems strange to me.
Good thread. I'm interested in reading the replies.

same here, I wasn't really aware that there are yoga panties? sounds weird. Honestly, I'm not really into these marketing stuff, as long as I have the basic things that I need in practicing yoga like the yoga mat I'm definitely fine. But on the other hand there's nothing wrong with people interested in buying these things, it's their choice.
I think it is just a method for getting people into a hip trend style that will pervade out into the main stream and get more people into the habitual practice of Yoga. Concerning this approach to win people over to the practice whether it be for physical, spiritual, or flexibility reasons we cannot look down at this but it is interesting that people need to invent logo's and marketing symbols ... although this is very "American" trend.
Guess if you really think about it how many people do you see wearing the favorite football tee-shirt around town on game day? In fact I have two co-workers that wear their teams jersey's that they pay an arm and leg for everyday day following a victory on the field. Guess the question that we should also address is whether this is different and if so why?
Gee Gabrielle, haven't you ever heard of panty yoga? It all about wondering what kind of panties other yoginis are wearing! Gosh, talk about out of the loop!
well I'm new to yoga but honestly I am somewhat persuaded by this marketing strategy coz I am actually planning of buying these stuff I think there's nothing wrong with it!
If you guys want to see hard-core yoga marketing come to Canada! There's a company called Lululemon (now in the States; mentioned on other forums on this site) and it has not only totally flooded the "yoga gear" market, but it has created a new generation of lounge-wear all together. Everywhere you turn there is a gal or guy sporting the Lululemon symbol regardless if they are yogis or not.
I don't want to be a hypocrite because I do love the stuff and although it is trendy I can see it's purpose in yoga. (I was acutally having this argument with my husband a few weeks ago about the same situation happening with running gear.) I do believe that yoga isn't about wearing a certain label or caring about being the best dressed in the room, but the clothes companies are designing for yoga these days actually do help with your practice: they move with your body, they breathe, they wick the moisture away from your skin, etc. I've tried to do yoga in other loose clothing and I just can't move as well as I can with the trendy, marketed stuff. Now the clothes don't have to be Lululemon or marketed over the cliff, but I do think if you're going to buy an article of clothing for your yoga practice it will end up falling into this 'branded' category because they are designed a certain way to help yogis and you'll see the benefit of it.
OH! I have heard of yoga panties...they're just panties made out of the same material as yoga pants, shirts, etc. They're actually extremely comfortable! I end up wearing them everyday instead of just for yoga

Lululemon is in the new Boulder 29th Street mall and has some pretty nice clothing items, however the tend to be pricey! Can't afford to move away from the Nike basketball shorts (15.99 at Dick's Sporting goods!). Need my kids to get through college first before I can look at doing a Yoga clothing makeover.
There's such things as yoga panties? I thought yoga was supposed to about minimalism and body and spirit? Personally I don't follow the yoga fads out there, they just make everything more confusing. As a beginner, I'm just trying to learn to not fall on my face! Not which pair of underoos are best for the warrior pose!
Yoga panties? gosh is there really such a thing this is so funny. The only yoga thing that I would like to use are mats and stick e socks, though I was not able to buy those socks yet LOL! I think simplicity in practicing yoga will turn out to be fine. The less things you use more natural outcome. And by the way yoga panties are for what?

I was watching TV and I noticed some guys from Pakistan on the news. Now there's fashion. But it doesn't fit my lifestyle or ethnicity.
I wear boxer shorts with little sayings, like "I hog the remote" "I eat junk food" "I never call my wife" etc...
