Hi. I think you will find the majority in this site prefer attending yoga classes rather than online or practicing yoga at home with a DVD.
I think it is up to the individual and how well that individual adheres to performing the postures correctly.
There are some good online yoga resources. I wrote an article on this topic. You can read it at the following location:
I have not personally checked this site out, but it has been referenced by other yoga forums:

The issues raised in developing a yoga practice (or an asana practice if that is what we are talking of) using an online source or a DVD is that typically the practice is one-size-fits-all. It mandates that the student fit the practice. In fact yoga practice should fit the student.
Just as one can buy a suit off the rack and get a fairly good fit (or a bad one) so too can one take yoga off the rack and get an "okay" product. But it will likely not be the fine fit only crafted by a master tailor.

Hi, Unfortunately there are not always qualified teachers around available to teach you in person. In the perfect world, wherever I live at the time there would be pool of great teachers and classes. So in the lacking of this, I think forums like this are great and and can be a definate advantage of the information age. I have a fantasy where I could sit with the Dalai Lama and just drink in whatever he could teach me. So maybe he can e mail me. Ha Ha.
Namaste,

I agree that ideally working 1:1 with a yoga master is quite an experience, but as EreneA and Toast point out, there are not always yoga instructors around.
I can relate. I live in a small rural town. I could not even find any pre-natal classes in the area when I was pregnant with my son. I had to rely on DVDs.
Personally, I think it is a personal preference along with a lifestyle choice. Some people may not get the most out of a yoga class due to feelings of self-consciousness. As long as you perfect your soul and get the most out of your yoga practice, I don't think it matters if you practice at home or by attending a class. It's all up to the individual.

Hello HappyFeet,
According to me On Line Yoga is good for experienced teacher. If anyone wants to start Yoga then should go with a Yoga teacher for practical guidance.
Thanks

Hi, Unfortunately there are not always qualified teachers that teach on online yoga. And of course, as by definition yoga is given toward the relationship in between the teacher and the student, online yoga will be a moment to share in between all of us, about different point of view or with different people. A biginner should not think everything on the web is ok for him. The teacher should guide especially the student.

I actually love yogatoday.com. I recommend it to my yoga students for when they want to practice, but can't make it to class. I particularly like Adi's classes.
