Did somebody told you to walk always feets parallelles ? Pay attention to this parallelle position. I have also this problem but with years of yoga it gone, most of the time. The problem could be a lot of differents details that in a forum, you will not be treated. You need to be viewed by a specialist. We can only give you comments and general conselling. When you identify the problem, you can be treated. It is not only in asanas where you have to pay attention, but in all your movement. So let us start with a good Samastiti position. When you do parshva or heros, dont open the feet, let them parallelle. Same when you do the tow legs table or four legs, pay attentiom to that. Dont do too much of knees work. Work on your ballance.
When you take steps, walking during the day, pay attention to your feet (parallelle). Slowely, your muscles will changes and inprove in supporting your body.

Yes, and you should also avoid all movements that causes pain at knees. Please avoid shoes with hills, if you are still using.

Thanks

Yes, such as: Vajrasana, Padmasana etc.
If knees are very painful then should not sit on the floor.
Thanks

i do hv weak knees and we know, knee joint is a joint that frequently and easily get hurt. In yoga, many asanas that require bending deeply of the knee, this can further injure the knee joint and aggravate knee pain for students who already have knee problems. To me, i wouldn't say i will totally avoid "the bending knee" position, as if i won't work my weak knee through the practice of yoga with these poses, i wl never ever strengthen my knee again... Thus, to me, it is essential to understand the anatomy of knee & advise the students the modification poses during the practice in order to protect the knee and prevent further damage and lessen the pain and work on it to gradually improve knee strengths...and alignment is very important to protect the weak knee, hence, I feel it is very important to find a good teacher who can give valuable advice and guidance....

Knee joint is hinge joint which allows movement in only one direction. It is not designed to bend sideways or hyperextension. But due to improper knee alignment or incorrect practice by putting too much pressure on their knee for example in lotus case, it is one of the common mistakes that student tend to bend their knee forcefully into lotus pose without being realise the root cause that prohibits the full pose is their tight hip joint. Knee joint is hinge joint which is less flexible and weaker than hip joints. Thus, this places a lot of pressure and easily hurt the knee. The correct movement into lotus is from the lateral rotation of hip joints not the knees. Therefore, student should not attempt to go to full lotus if they have inflexible hip joints and never ever over-strain your knees. They can also do half lotus or simple cross leg pose is always good enough.

In yoga, diamond pose (vajrasana) is one the basic and simple sitting posture. Yes, this pose alleviates pain and discomfort for those who have weak or injured knees. This probably caused by poor extension of the quadriceps in this knee bent position, inflamed prepatellar bursa and etc. Therefore, the students can ease the pain by padding folded blanket or cushion underneath the bents knee or sit on the blocks which allow the student to be seated in a higher position and well supported thereby reduce the pressure and alleviate the pain on knee.

One of the ways to strengthen the weak knees is to work on the quadriceps group of muscle. Utkatasana represents an excellent asana that strengthen the quadriceps and knees. However, over bending will exert unnecessary strain on knee joint. Therefore, for the students have knee problems, just bend the knees less and do not over extend your knees. Alternatively, the students can perform this asana against the wall and this will help to stay in this pose.

So am I to understand you are a 60 year-old woman?

Unfortunately your post does not contain enough information for any sort of sound assessment. What is your health? What is your fitness background? Where is your knee pain? Is it on the out side, the inside or another location? Do you have the pain when you are lying down? Does ice or heat help? Is it better or worse in the morning/evening?

You don't state that you have a yoga practice of any sort. So advice relative to asana at this point would be pointless. If you do have a practice could you please outline it's nature, frequency, and duration. Also in what style are you practicing?

If you are not practicing, is it your intention to begin a practice and is that intention specifically for a remedy for the knee issue?

Fill in the blanks and I'll gladly do my part.

Namaste Angej,

This information is nice, but if you allow me then I’ll ask you whether you have ever taken X-ray of your Knees! And is that diagnosed as Osteoarthritis? Please let me know.

Thanks everybody.

Namaste Angej,

Thanks, so according to X-ray report it is Osteoarthritis of knee joints? You mention that you fallen down right and the pain is developed at left knee first. This is what we call traumatic arthritis, as it comes from a trauma. Anyway, I have therapeutic applications for you. And if you follow these then you bring changes at your knees. However, you please follow the restrictions whatever my Yoga teacher friends advised here. And don’t need to attend any regular Yoga class if you don’t mind. Thank you and wait for next post please.

Thanks everybody.
