The Muscles - The Muscular System and Yoga
Yoga Health are two words which are very closely related. The yoga health benefit is widely known. Yoga is there to aid both your physical and mental health. Therefore, most people who are interested in practising yoga do so for health reasons. They want to ease their back pain or want to know a method to relieve stress. This yoga and health section takes a closer look at how your body functions and how yoga can benefit your body.
Skeletal System Background
Our body depends on an intricate framewok of some 206 bones. The axial skeleton compromises skull, breast bone, ribs and the column of vertebrae guarding the vital spine cord. The successive arcs of the spine (cervical, thoraric, lumbar and sacral) give it resilience and effective weight distribution. Problems of the spinal curves - round shoulders, hollow back and twisted spine - cause increased stress on the lumbar vertebrae and on the joint and the limbs, pelvis and pectoral girdle. These joints are protected from wear by cartilage, and supported by in the correct position by muscles and ligaments.
Yoga and the Skeleton
Yoga asanas or poses are designed to free all the body's different joints, opening them up to relieve pressure on the protective cartilage and restore correct allignment of the bones. By keeping mucles and ligaments healthy. and posture correct, you can prevent problems of damage to joints.
You can take good care of your Muscular System through the help of Yoga. Not only does it strengthen your muscles but at the same time, you gain a healthy inner being as well.

I don't know whether anyone experiences this - I expect so - but it's a new 'injury' to me.
Having been practising for a few years now I have started ashtanga yoga about 6 months ago and now experience pain at the side/back of my knee. This is particularly so in half lotus (but only on one leg)
Does anyone else ever suffer this and if so, what are the recommendations for dealing with it. At the moment I'm struggling to find any information about it (apart from chancing on this site) and have now abstained from doing half lotus on this side.
Thanks for reading this.
