Agni Yoga
Agni Yoga is a supreme synthesis of all highest Yoga practices. It is mainly practiced in India wherein it is based on Vedic Knowledge. Agni means “fire”. It is also the name of the Vedic diety “Fire-God”. Agni is invoked by traditional Vedic ceremonies and fire rituals. It also involves breath and mind control to raise Kundalini.
Agni Yoga or what is also called the “Teaching of Living Ethics” was founded by Nicholas Roerich and his wife, Helena Roerich. Growing from the early 20th century, its practice emphasizes conscious striving in one’s daily life. This teaching is still evident in India, New York, and Moscow.
Being the most recent and most ancient of all Yoga practices, Agni Yoga is the ultimate path of knowing oneself and to the highest worlds. It emphasizes joy, beauty, love, knowledge, and happiness. It intends to free oneself from prejudices, stereotypes, and dogmas of the past. Most followers of this practice are those people who are more open to change and more forward-looking.
Agni Yoga contributed a lot to the spiritual awakening of many people. Its teachings were given as a way of completing the entire life. The main points of the teachings of Agni Yoga are the following:
- God. In Agni Yoga, God is called the Infinity. It is called in so many ways in different languages. It can be viewed as the Mother and Father of all that exist.
- Path to God. Man’s life is ultimately to be in God’s path. His aspirations must be “fiery” and must receive God’s full support. There are ethics to be followed and vices to be rid of.
- Community. Going to God as a community is better for they will be united by the same aspirations and beliefs. They should be comprised of people who are faithful and honest.
- Encounters with Evil. This refers to the dark side. It can be recognized as the people who live in anger, condemnation, violence, and betrayal. Contacts with these forces make the people seek unity with the Lord.
- Hard Karma. This will depend on the ethical mistakes their destiny made in their contemporary lives or in past lives.
These are only some of the teachings of Agni Yoga. The practice of Agni Yoga brings spiritual consciousness into the moment. But there are no mantras, Asanas, or Meditation, and there is no teacher or master. Agni Yoga attracts only a certain type of people because it can be difficult to understand. Thus, for one to be able to understand its essence fully, one must be open-minded, accept its purification, and open one’s heart to its power.
