Bikram Yoga Pose - Pranayama Breathing

The Pranayama Breathing is the first step and the essential part in Bikram Yoga. It is a kind of breath control that lets you use your lungs 100% that helps in regulating your blood pressure, relaxing your mind, detoxifying your body and preventing respiratory problems. This kind of slow breathing is very beneficial to your health and it also serves as a good preparation for any strenuous activity or exercise.

STEP 1:Look in the mirror with your feet and toes together. Just keep your feet close to one another even if you feel you’re about to fall on one side. Concentrate hard until you have maintained your balance. Put your hands together, lock your knuckles and tuck it under your chin.

STEP 2: Slowly raise your elbows sideways, leveled with your shoulders while you press your chin to your knuckles.

STEP 3: As you begin to inhale raise your arms higher. Close your mouth and breathe through your nose until the count of six. Keep your chin perfectly planted to your intertwined knuckles without bending forward. Raise your arms on the side, keep them straight and don’t ever bend your wrist.

STEP 4: Tilt your head back, open your mouth halfway while slowly exhaling for another six counts. While doing that, bring your clasped fingers under you chin with your elbows and wrists touching. Push upwards until you’re looking straight at the ceiling.

Pranayama helps you use your lungs at most and aside from that it also helps circulation in your body, which is good in keeping your muscles active. This is a good warm-up for any exercise since it prepares your entire body and mind for any upcoming strenuous workout. Just don’t forget about the proper poses of this standing breathing, keep your shoulders, arms and neck relaxed if you want to do this right.
