Loknath Yoga
Written by Super Member: yogitonmoy
Mahayogi Shri Loknath Brahmachari was born in 1730 in undivided Bengal (now a part of West Bengal) in eastern India. The great Yogi left his home with his Guru Sri Bhagaban Ganguly after the sacred thread ceremony at the age of ten. After leaving his family behind, he came to Kalighat (located in Kolkata) which was a dense forest at that time, on the bank of river Ganga, and started his ‘Sadhana’ under the spiritual guidance of his Guru Shri Bhagaban Ganguly. The process was extremely rigorous. After a couple of years of Hatha Yoga practice, at the end of his learning, he had to cook food for his Guru to prove his skill by placing the fire on his thighs, which was successfully performed.
He left for the Himalayas with his Guru for further contemplation and divine austerities. In the snow covered caves in the Himalayas, he spent nearly 100 years in learning and practicing all the stages of Yoga Sadhana (Ashtanga Yoga) and achieved the highest level a human body can achieve. He then traveled in different parts of the world through Afghanistan, Persia, Arabia, Palestine, Europe, China and Siberia on bare foot. He visited Mecca & Medina for three different times with Great Yogi Tailanga Swami, Yogi Benimadhab. They met Abdul Gaffur, a great Muslim ascent during that time, who also joined and traveled with them. Finally, Shri Loknath Brahmachari came to Sonargaon in 1863 and established an Ashram (monastery) at Baradi, settled down near Dhaka, (now in Bangladesh).
People from all communities and strata used to come to him for relief from various diseases and problems in their lives. That time, he used to cure them by sending ‘Prana’ from his body to their bodies. He stayed in Barodi for 26 years and blessed thousands of people with his divine grace.
On June 1, 1890, he called all his disciples at the Ashram in the morning and told them, “Today, I am leaving my physical body today at 11:40. But this is not the death as you say. It is just a shift to a new medium. As you change your old cloths for new get up and purpose, for me, it’s a journey towards eternity. But I will be here within you. If anybody remembers me by heart for help, I will be there for him”. Sitting in the posture of Gomukhasana, he had left his earthly body at 11:40am.
Shri Loknath Brahmachari is omnipresent. The spiritual ideologies of the great Yogi are the guiding spirit of millions of devotees. His work is still carried on through the greatest living Yogi of India, Shri Thakur Janakinath Brahmachari, who is relentlessly working for amelioration of the downtrodden, promote traditional Yoga education for self-development of individuals, Sanskrit education and extending education to the poor children after providing them with basic amenities of food, clothes and shelter.
Guruji Thakur Janakinath Brahmachari is the spiritual reincarnation of Mahayogi Shri Loknath Brahmachari. He was born on 14 January 1965 in a small village in the eastern part of India, West Bengal. All the great spiritual leaders of India arrived there to welcome my master during that time, as they have previously known about him.
Loknath Yoga is a traditional system of Yoga, which is developed by the greatest living Yogi in India Shri Shri Thakur Janakinath Brahmachari, following the footprint of Shri Shri Baba Loknath Brahmachari. He spent nearly 100 years of his life for the practice and development of this Yogic System. Hence, this traditional Yogic system is devoted to his great name, “Loknath Yogic System” or “Loknath Yoga”.
What is Loknath Yoga?
It is a traditional way of yogic accomplishment to achieve the ultimate level of self-realization. This system is based on ' yoga sutra' composed by Maharshi Patanjali. This entire system consists of eight continual stages and thus named as 'Ashtanga Yoga'. But the limitless realm of Yoga shastra has its own eternal beauty and no text and knowledge can describe it exhaustively. Baba Loknath spent nearly a hundred years practicing all the stages of Yoga sadhana. His rigorous austerity and uncompromising self-discipline took him to the peak of incomprehensible perfection.
Later, this valuable Traditional Yogic system (Loknath Yoga) is developed under spiritual guidance of Shri Janakinnath Brahmachari, following the spiritual ideology of Shri Loknath Brahmachari at Baba Loknath Institute for Soul Searching (BLISS), Kolkata, which is under Shri Shri Baba Loknath Brahmachari Mahamondal Ashram, Muragatha, PO-Jugberia, 24 Pgs. North, West Bengal, India.
“Loknath Yogic System” emphasizes proper Yogic breathing (Pranayama), a gentle approach of Yoga posture (Asana), Mudras (Hsatha,Kaya, Mana, Adhara etc.), Badhas (Lock), Kriyas (Shat Karma) with concentration technique and Yogic diet to follow in practical life, which developed by the great Yogi Shri Janakinath Brahmachari. In this system, rest has to be taken after performing each posture through the proper way of relaxation to achieve the maximum benefit from Yoga practice. At the beginning stage, it starts with the steady practice of postures, holding each pose for at least 20 to 30 seconds (step one), then holding the postures longer, one minute and more and developing concentration and inner awareness through the practice of self-realization method (step two), and finally surrendering to God through Meditation (step three). The therapeutic approach of this system on various diseases is wonderful and has been applying for preventing and curing many disorders with great success. Balancing of the five basic elements (through various Hasta Mudra) and Chakras (through Chakra Meditation) are the main keys to remove disorders through various Yogic ways.
According to the great saint Patanjali ‘Yogah Chitta Vritti Nirodhah’, Yoga is a process of gaining control over the mind. It is mastery over the mind. So, if we can follow the Yogic path then there will be no stress and tension in any tough situation. And if there is no stress or tension then there will be no psychosomatic problems as such.
Maybe it is not so easy to control over the restless mind. But this is the main key of “Loknath Yoga”. As Shri Loknath Brahmachari said, “give your mind to me and it will be my responsibility to solve all your problems.” Our Guruji guides us how to concentrate our mind easily through the recitation of following Mantras, which is very effective and beneficial in all situations:
“Jay Baba Mangalkari Loknath Brahmachari”
Anybody can chant this Mantra step by step to achieve the benefit:
Verbal Chanting = 10 times,
Whisper Chanting = 10 times
Mental Chanting =10 times initially
After one month of continuous practice, one should increase the time to achieve more benefits.
Self-realization: This is what is included in the second limbs of Yoga, known as “Swadhyaya” in Sanskrit. It means self-study. Loknath Yoga puts more emphasis on it to practice it every day for five to ten minutes, before you go to bed or after you get up early in the morning. Guruji Shri Janakinath Brhmachari says, “Self-realization or Self-study or “Atma-Darshan” is one of the vital stages of Ashtanga Yoga and should be included in the schedule of our daily life because this bridges the relationship between the small I and the big I”. “Self-realization is the only duty of all human beings to perform every day”, he added.
It is not necessary that one must recite the said ‘Mantra’, but should chant some other ‘Mantra’ that you do believe. Guruji says, “Yoga is not religious and during ancient time, all the spiritual leaders from all religions used to practice Yoga Techniques. Yoga is the property of human beings and not important which religions we belong to”. We need someone to show us the right path to follow and to trust. That may be our Guru, our spiritual leader, our God, our Muhammad, our Jesus, our Buddha or Loknath. All of them are the same, related somewhere very closely and without their guidance and blessings, we cannot achieve success in higher practice - Yoga practice.

Namaste, I am lee from Brunei. I had a opportunity to practise yoga through Loknath Yoga system by yogachira tonmoy. when he come to Brunei few month age. I found this Loknath yoga system is safe and good for people of all ages. Aged people like me do not get injured during practice. It is very much traditional. I love this Loknath yoga. I am also surprised to know about Loknath bramachari. He spent 100 years of his life in Himalaya in snow covered area. without cloth, food and water. and when he left his phisical body, he decleared about the the perfect date and time of his deperture. A real yogi only can do this. I visited his Ashram in Kolkata, India. It is si nice and peaceful and closed to the nature. I met Guruji Shri janakinath Brahmachari. He is the reincarnation of Loknath Bramchari.
Thyank you for this article.
Namaste
