Yantra Yoga

Yantra Yoga Yantra Yoga originated from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition which makes use of movements and postures, breathing exercises, Meditation techniques, and is somewhat similar to Hatha Yoga and Chi Gung.

It first began in the 8th century AD by Tibetan teacher Vairocana. Based on body mandala, they are taught to purify karma, eliminate negativity, and generate peace. Yantra Yoga is a holistic and meditative technique. It includes the use of body, speech, and mind. The postures and movements work the body, while the breathing exercises and Meditation techniques target the mind.

The word yantra is a Sanskrit word which is derived from the root meaning “to restrain, curb or check”. Its root word “yam” means supporting or holding the essence of an object while “tra” means liberation from bondage. It also means liberation from the cycle of birth and rebirth.

Yantra Yoga is easy to understand but it will take a lifetime to be able to fully master it. Its techniques combine the circulation and rejuvenation of the body’s energy. It focuses on purifying the mind, body, and spirit for healing.

Unlike other types of Yoga, Yantra Yoga makes use of movements. Movements are similar to that of Hatha Yoga poses but they quickly flow to movements similar to Chi Gung or Tai Chi. The aim is to move spiritual energy through channels, creating a healing effect. The benefits of Yantra Yoga include having a balanced energy and spiritual development.

Yantra Yoga traditionally consists of 108 movements which include body movements, mantras, breathwork, and visualization. It helps rebalance physical energy and relax the body, voice, and mind through a series of exercises. Yantra Yoga has eight principle movements which are all associated with eight patterns of breathing, each with five phases. There are also five groups of five Asanas (25), each of which has seven phases of breathing.

Each type of Yoga concentrates on different areas of your body. Some of them may even include mind, breathing, and so on. Likewise, you can get a whole lot of benefits by practicing Yoga. Be in balance with yourself and with everyone around you and be on your way to inward peace.
