Yoga Mats - Care & Maintenance
A Yoga Mat helps improve balance and coordination as you practice Yoga. It can also decrease the risks of injuries caused by slippery surfaces. Moreover, you will be a lot more comfortable in doing the different Yoga Poses if you have a mat. Since you will be using your Yoga Mat for a long time and health and sanitation are important, keeping your mat clean is necessary. You don’t want a stinky odour coming from your mat, do you? Here are ways to keep your Yoga Mat clean and looking brand new:
- Determine the type of your Yoga Mat. Cleaning a synthetic mat is different from taking care of a padded mat.
- In general, it is safe to use ordinary soap and water to clean the Yoga Mat.
- Avoid using soaps with scented oils as these can deteriorate the materials in your mat.
- The most important thing to remember if you want your Yoga Mat to retain its original shape is that you should never squeeze it. Just hang it and let it dry.
- Another way to clean it is by using a small piece of cloth. Gently wipe the surface to remove dirt.
- There are mild cleaning liquids that you can use. Just spray a little amount to a piece of wet cloth and wipe the mat’s surface.
- Other mats come with washing instructions so be sure to follow them.
- To keep your Yoga Mat sticky, clean it once every other week.
- When not in use or when traveling, keep your mat in a Yoga bag.
Take good care of your Yoga Mat so it can provide the comfort and traction that you need in Yoga sessions. By cleaning it properly and maintaining its good condition, you will be able to use your mat for a longer time.
