Yoga Mat Buying Guide - How to Buy Yoga Mats

Yoga Mat Buying Guide - How to Buy Yoga Mats Yoga is very popular these days especially to those who want to improve their physical well-being and mental awareness. To fully enjoy this activity and be more comfortable while doing it, there are several tools that you can use. One of these is the Yoga Mat. This is probably the most commonly used Yoga equipment. It will help you perform properly and effectively in all your exercises. It can also provide traction as you change position so you will be able to maintain balance and practice Yoga with ease.

With the increasing popularity of Yoga, there is also an increasing demand for different kinds of mats. Here are some simple guidelines to help you determine the kind of Yoga Mat that suits you:

  • Know the different types of Yoga Mats, check out the features of each type, and determine what kind of mat meets your needs. Here are some of the basic Yoga Mats in the market today:

    • Cotton mats - best in absorbing perspiration and provide cooling effect

    • Sticky mats – provide enough traction as you move or change position; very useful in Power Yoga which involves a lot of movement

    • Thin mats – sprinkle some water in these mats to benefit from their stability feature

    • Ultra double thickness mats – more bulky and provide more cushioning

    • Meditation mats – used for relaxation: a Meditation Mat usually comes with a pillow

  • The Yoga Mat should grip on the floor to prevent you from slipping or sliding. It is also important that it can absorb perspiration while doing Yoga activities.

  • It should be lightweight so you can easily carry it to your Yoga class.

  • Make sure that your mat is non-toxic and bio-friendly. Without the nasty smell of toxic substance, you will be able to concentrate on your session.

  • You may also ask the help of your Yoga teacher. He or she will be able to help you in finding the mat that fits your needs.

  • Get a Yoga Mat that is easy to clean and maintain.

A good Yoga Mat can provide comfort and enough traction as you do different Yoga Poses. Make sure to buy the Yoga Mat that best suits your needs so you will have a safe and comfortable Yoga session every time!

I have two mats - a think one for home use and a thinner one to take with me to class. The colors you show above are so pretty, I''d love to get one to match each yoga outfit! :)
