Yoga is More than just Exercise
THURSDAY, 25 MAY 2006
Jennifer Duffy said in her column at the Arizona Daily Star last Tuesday that contrary to what most Americans think, yoga is more than just a type of physical exercise but is also an exercise for the mind.
In her opinion piece entitled, "On Pace: Yoga an exercise for mind, not just body" Duffy said that the ultimate goal of yoga, "is not a better body, but a better state of being."
Further in her piece, she wrote what yoga really is about. She wrote that it is, "about the mental and emotional peace you find through looking inward, focusing on breath and accepting the moment as it is." Duffy also added that yogis should use breath to loosen their bodies and to focus on the moment that he or she is currently in. That and the remembrance that peace is in each and everyone of us will guide us through difficult times.
