THURSDAY, 24 AUGUST 2006
"Practice yoga with care", says Eugenie Jones, a wellness specialist and writer.
In her article in www.rocklintoday.com, she reported that the there is a raise in the number of yoga-related injuries. More than 3,700 yoga-related injuries were treated by doctors in the course of a year, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety. Repetitive strains, overstretched muscles, and injuries in the neck, legs, spine, knees, and shoulders are among the medical problems yoga practitioners are being treated for.
Jones included some helpful recommendations from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) in her article. AAOS recommends yoga practitioners to perform yoga with moderation, depending upon the practitioner's level of flexibility. Consulting a doctor when one has any medical conditions or injuries is also highly recommended.
