Yoga Expert Warns About Doing Dhanurasana
THURSDAY, 31 AUGUST 2006
Dhanurasana or the Bow combines the movement of Bhujangasana or the cobra pose and the Salabhasana or the locust pose. While the body rests on the abdomen, the hands pull the trunks and legs up, and the spine and back muscles are all bent.
This yoga pose is said to strengthen the abdominal muscles, maintains the elasticity of the spine, and massages the abdominal pose. It is also said to develop internal harmony and vitality.
However, according to yoga expert Subodh Gupta, there are dangers of doing this yoga pose in certain conditions. Gupta advises anyone who has chronic or acute back pain not to do this pose. As this pose puts pressure on the abdominal region, pregnant women and those who have hernia are also dissuaded from doing this. Gupta also advises those who have pain in the upper left part of the abdomen to consult a doctor before trying this pose.
