Ananda Hatha Yoga, a Hit Among Military Officials

FRIDAY, 29 SEPTEMBER 2006

Forty-three-year old Jim Kittsmiller credits his good physical shape to ananda hatha yoga. Kittsmiller, a Navy Reserve senior commander, has been practicing ananda hatha yoga at a Los Angeles yoga studio, and he is not the only American military officer doing it.

Priya Arora Rogers, a yoga instructor, says that there are American military officers who are taking ananda hatha yoga courses. "It helps them to relax in this fast paced world of stress. This is a tool to manage stress and anxiety that overwhelms most military men for obvious reasons," Rogers said. Rogers also added that yoga helps military officials sleep better, alleviate stress, and have an improved lifestyle.

Rogers explains that ananda hatha yoga is a combination of classical yoga practice with pranayama and meditation. "It primary purpose is to raise one's awareness to a higher level. In Ananda yoga, each asana or posture has been added with a powerful tool of affirmation, and this helps to deepen the posture and focus the mind," Rogers imparts.
