New Studies Show Benefits of Yoga and Meditation

Recent studies conducted by the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy show that Vipasana meditation and Pranayama help in stress management, and in improving memory and learning.

The study on Vipasana employed children with poor memory and attention abilities. For six months, the participants underwent meditation classes and therapy. Researchers have found out that mental fatigue of the participants were reduced and that their long-term memory, reflex memory, and attention span improved.

On the other hand, the research on integrated yoga therapy shows that it helps in alleviating anxiety, back pain, bronchial asthma, and chronic pain. Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama is also found to be helpful in easing anxiety neurosis, bronchial asthma, and hypertension. Lastly, left nostril breathing or Chandraluna Viloma is said to ease back pain, schronic pain, and diabetes while right nostril breathing or Suryanuloma Viloma helps in battling obesity and rheumatoid arthritis.

Researchers conclude that the audio-visual recall and retention ability of children can be greatly improved with regular practice of yoga.
