Yoga Keeps Hypertension Away, CCYRN Head Says
WEDNESDAY, 27 SEPTEMBER 2006
Yoga a day keeps hypertension away.
Central Council for Research in Yoga and Neuropathy Director Dr. BT Chidananda Murthy recommends daily yoga practice to keep away hypertension.
"Yoga improves physical, mental, and spiritual health. It makes physiological reflexes, reactions, and responses more alert, sensitive, and subtle," Dr. Murthy says. Hypertension, he explains, is brought about by physical, mental, and emotional imbalance leading to instability of the nervous system.
Aside from yoga, Dr. Murthy also recommends doing meditation which is also beneficial in decreasing the risk for hypertension. Dr. Murthy says that meditation has an effect on the release of adrenaline.
Around the world, 20 percent of adults are afflicted with hypertension. Most of them are oblivious to their own affliction since hypertension does not usually give indications thus, earning the tag 'silent killer'.
