Yoga Thwarts Atherosclerosis Obstructions

Yoga and Naturopathy thwarts atherosclerosis obstructions in patients with coronary artery disease. This is according to Coronary Atherosclerosis Reversal Potential of Yoga Life Style Intervention, a Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy research publication.
Aside from reversing atherosclerosis obstructions, yoga is also said to even out atherosclerotic plaque thus, does not necessitate coronary bypass surgery or angioplasty.
Dr. SC Manchanda, head of the Department of Cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, together with Adhyatma Sadhna Kendra, studied 42 male patients who have angiographicaly proven coronary artery disease. The patients were grouped into two: one group was under yoga lifestyle intervention while the other group was under conventional medical therapy. After a year, the researchers found out that there was improvement in symptoms of overcoming angina in the yoga group while the other group showed decline in over-all conditions. There were also improvement in body weight, cholesterol levels, and psychological status in the yoga group which were not apparent in the non-yoga group.
Yoga and Naturopathy intervention include Kayotsong, a relaxation exercise, pranayama, asamas, preksha meditation, stress management, and vegetarian diet.
