Yoga Practices might Soothe Sore Eyes
WEDNESDAY, 25 APRIL 2007
A new research from the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation found out that yoga can be an innovative way to reduce eyestrain for people who work at computers.
This study, which was published in Head & Face Medicine, said that computer workers who practiced yoga for 60 days reported experiencing improved visual comfort and reduced "dry eye". Likewise, previous research also showed the effectiveness of yoga in reducing eye strain among people with progressive nearsightedness.
The said study used employees of a local software development company to determine whether yoga could assist professional computer users. Members of the yoga group practiced yoga for one hour per day, five days per week. It included exercises which include shifting the eyes in eight directions while moving an extended thumb to direct the gaze and looking at a flame at eye level without blinking, while focusing and defocusing the eyes.
