What is considered an ancient practice has now become a mainstream in the United Sates.

According to a study in 2005 conducted by Harris Interactive Service Bureau, Americans are spending $2.95 bil
lion a year for yoga classes and products, equipment, clothing, vacations, DVDs, videos and magazines. The number only shows how yoga has now become part of the American culture.

More than just a fad, yoga can also be considered a lifestyle according to Dayna Macy of the Yoga Journal. Macy also considers it “commodified” in the sense that yoga is made savvy depending on the customer—if one wants to have a good figure out of yoga, that can be the goal; or if one wants to make it a spiritual practice, that is also possible.

In an article by Poughkeepsie Journal, the trend on yoga has also solicited various reactions from its practitioners. Some say yoga is for depression or stress relief. While others consider its therapeutic effects such as lowering one’s blood pressure or for weight loss.

YogaFit, the U.S.'s leading yoga training company, has just released the latest title in its innovative product line – YogaFit for Cyclists – a yoga regimen developed to complement and enhance the cycling/spinning w orkout experience.

This new workout allows for increased flexibility, improved breathing, and less chance for typical cycling injuries. As a result, the chest is opened, lower body flexibility increases, the mind-body connection improves, and breath is better coordinated with movement.

The YogaFit for Cyclists DVD can be performed in its entirety or viewed in segments designed to complement a home stationary bike workout or a spinning class. It is also ideal for long distance drivers who experience repetitive stress discomfort, anyone who spends extended periods slouching over computer keyboards, and mothers of small children who are constantly leaning forward to pick up their children or are nursing. YogaFit’s “No judgment/No expectation/No competition” approach means that each participant’s practice becomes their own, without pushing or forcing, thereby maximizing their enjoyment and results while honoring their bodies and staying present in the moment.

Caroline Klebl offers a comprehensive Teacher Training program for teachers, aspiring teachers and dedicated practitioners of yoga. Her teacher training combines the high standards of practice, required by the Asht anga Vinyasa System with the development of teaching skills necessary to introduce students to Ashtanga Yoga safely and effectively.

The focus of this course is on the practice and method of teaching the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. Each day of the course begins with a Mysore style or Led Primary Series class, thereby providing each participant with the opportunity to immerse deeply in their own practice. The ability to give adjustments and to assist students to deepen their postures and practice is developed throughout the course. The Sanskrit names of the postures are introduced and how to teach an Ashtanga Yoga Led class effectively is evaluated in detail. The benefits of the specific sequencing and the principles of Vinyasa(the movements between postures), Oujaii Pranayama(the sound induced breath), Drishti(the gaze) and Bandhas(the three locks or seals) are included as essential elements of the Ashtanga Yoga practice. The importance of encouraging students to continue with a regular practice and preparing them for Mysore style is emphasized. Basic yoga philosophy, including the translation and chanting of the Yoga Sutras as well as the Anatomy most relevant to yoga practice is introduced. The course includes an introduction to Ayurveda, and instruction in Meditation. Maintaining a vegetarian diet and a lifestyle, which is conducive to yoga practice is encouraged throughout the course. Each participant has the opportunity to teach, assist and give adjustments. This teacher training explores the depth of the Ashtanga Yoga practice by revealing it's teaching techniques.

When we laugh our bodies release a cocktail of hormones & chemicals that have startling positive effects on our system. Stress is reduced, blood pressure drops, depression is lifted, and our immune system is boosted. This laughter practice moves progressively from the ho ho, ha ha exercise to other types of simulated laughter. It is called as 'laughter cocktail. This "cocktail" includes hearty laughter, greeting laughter, open-mouthed silent laughter, humming laughter, lion laughter (an adaptation of Lion Pose), and swinging laughter, with arm movement. Each laughter is sustained for up to 45 seconds, and followed with deep breathing and stretching exercises. Laughter exercises almost always lead to real laughter, especially when practiced in a group. Laughter yoga is one of the best stress management known so far.

Many people might be surprised to think of laughter as a form of meditation. Not only is laughing meditation one of the simplest forms of meditation, but also it is a very powerful one. The physical act of laughing is one of the few actions involving the body, emotions, and the soul. When we laugh, we give ourselves over to the immediacy of the present moment. Practiced in the morning, laughing meditation can lend a joyful quality to the entire day. Practiced in the evening, laughing meditation is a potent relaxant that has been known to inspire pleasant dreams. Laughter also can help open our eyes to previously unnoticed absurdities that can make life seem less serious.
