TUESDAY, 27 NOVEMBER 2007

Matthew Sanford from Duluth, Minn., 42, is named as a semifinalist in “America’s Greatest Hometown Hero”. He has been one of the nation’s top 40 heroes in the 6th Annual Volvo for Life Awards - an annual, nationwide search for real-life heroes in America. Sanford was left paralyzed from the chest down after a tragic car crash when he was 13. He discovered yoga at 25 and the power of mind and body connection. Now he is a nationally-renowned yoga teacher, author and an expert in mind-body integration.

It offers programs in the workplace, at the yoga studio, and in the community. Sanford is a pioneer in adapting yoga for people living with disabilities. In his personal memoir, A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence, Sanford shares his philosophy on the importance of mind-body relationship for everyone.
