Prisoners in India to Practice Yoga, Meditation
TUESDAY, 29 JANUARY 2008
INDIA- The Coimbatore Central Prison will introduce yoga and meditation to prisoners, following attempts and reported suicides in the last few months.
Prison officers were advised to separate the prisoners, the murder case accused and those who committed petty crimes. Yoga and meditation will be extended to these categories of prisoners. Centers like the World Community Service Center, Isha Yoga Centre and the Art of Living will help provide the yoga and meditation sessions.
Prisoners get out of their cells from 6am to 6pm to work in the workshop, watch TV or read in the library. However, some are found whiling away their time. Authorities suggest that something should be done, like yoga and meditation, so that prisoners can learn something useful.
