Health Ministry to Introduce Yoga to Schools

India’s Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss wants to make yoga compulsory in schools. He would meet with Human Resources Department Minister Arjun Singh to make yoga mandatory in schools across the country. Ramadoss said he would take up the issue of making health a subject in schools so that children are made aware of health conditions like diabetes and hypertension and their prevention.
The minister disclosed that yoga would be introduced in 24 major Central Government Health Schemes (CGHS) centers in Delhi. Yoga will be taught to government servants who avail of free health services. Ramadoss described yoga as a “good trend” and a “cost-effective” way to live a healthy life. He added that the IT sectors should also imbibe the concept of yoga since many youngsters out of college join IT companies.
