Thursday, 31 July 2008CLINTON, MD - Yoga Day USA 2009, an annual celebration of yoga, will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Created by Yoga Alliance, the leading non-profit organization dedicated to upholding the diversity and integrity of yoga, Yoga Day USA is designed to increase the public's awareness of yoga's benefits and help make yoga more accessible to everyone, including those of all fitness levels, age s, and ethnicities. 2009 marks the 10th year for this annual celebration supported by Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT) and Registered Yoga Schools (RYS) across the country that will hold free or low-cost workshops to educate their communities about the mind and body benefits of a yoga practice. Many Yoga Day USA events are also fundraisers for charitable organizations, giving participants the opportunity to experience karma yoga, the act of selfless giving.
"Yoga Day USA is a day for the yoga community to come together to embrace those who want to learn more about the ancient practice of yoga and the transformative effects it can have on one's life," says Yoga Alliance Board Chair Terri Kennedy, Ph.D. "The practice is literally for 'every body' - it meets you where you are no matter what your capacity or state of health," she added.
According to a 2008 Yoga Journal magazine study, 15.8 million Americans practice yoga and 14 million say that a doctor or therapist has recommended yoga to improve their health. Yoga as medical therapy is garnering more attention in the medical community as demonstrated by National Institute of Health's (NIH) first ever Yoga Week held this past May which explored the science and practice of yoga. The benefits of yoga are numerous and include improvement in heart health, reduction of cholesterol, and improved circulation. Practicing yoga can also help those with illnesses ranging from asthma to cancer. Yoga is also known for slowing the signs of aging, decreasing wrinkles, firming skin, and reducing oxidative stress.

Thursday, 31 July 2008The Cape May County Library in New Jersey is offering yoga classes for teens every Wednesday at the Main Branch of the library.
Teen Yoga is open to all yoga enthusiasts, 12 to 18 years old, with a valid Cape May County Library Card. Since the location can only accommodate limited numbers, interested participants are advised to register in advance.
The said classes, whi ch started yesterday, July 30, provide young individuals the opportunity to learn various postures as well as the value of staying fit and having fun. The yoga classes are led by Kripala Certified Yoga Instructor and owner of Just Breathe Yoga, Christina Newdeck.

Monday, 28 July 2008Active Adult Center, located at the Downers Grove Park District, Downers Grove, IL, will be offering chair yoga and chair fitness classes in September. The classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 to 10:50 in the morning.
The registration fee is $42 for those who have membership with the Active Adult Center. Downers Grove Park District residents can sign up at a speci al price of $56, while non-residents may sign up for $89.
A free class will be held on August 27 at 10 in the morning. The sample class will then be followed by a bingo game. To register, call Active Adult Center at (630) 963-1314, 9am - 1pm, Monday - Friday.

Friday, 25 July 2008Enjoy live music and flow yoga at the YOGAspirit Studios, Hamilton, MA today at 6pm. Today's event will offer yoga enthusiasts a sample of what's in store for them at the Global Mala Boston Event which will be held on September 21.
This event will feature a special yoga class which is designed for beginners and will be led by YOGAspirit Studios owner and director Kim Valeri. Particip ants can fully enjoy the spiritual exercise with live music from renowned guitarist Chris Brenne. After the yoga class, participants will receive free refreshments.

Thursday, 24 July 2008The 2008 Yogafit Mind/Body Fitness Conference will be held from August 13 to 17 at the Best Western Hood River Inn, Oregon. Fitness trainers, yoga instructors, and enthusiasts have the opportunity to participate in various workshops and training programs within the five-day conference.
The conference will feature training programs on anatomy and alignment, therapy yoga, kid's yoga, a nd more.
