We have been conducting a large online international study investigating peoples’ wellbeing called - The International Wellbeing Study. This study has been running since March 2009 and basically investigates peoples' wellbeing over the course of one year. Since its inception, we have been, and are aiming to, specifically investigate the wellbeing of yoga participants, and how their wellbeing chan ges over a year as not much is known about this.
  • To participate, you need to be 16 years of age or older and fill out this same study in every third month for a year - five times in total.

  • The survey takes around 30 minutes to complete (making your total commitment about 2 hours or so over the year). This survey is only open to those who commit to undertake all five identical surveys.

  • After you have completed the five assessments, you will receive an e-mail summary report of your scores. This report will further explain the questions we asked, provide more detail about the study, and also show you how your answers compare to those of others who answered the survey.

  • All survey respondents who complete the five assessments will go into the draw to win one of ten $100 amazon.com vouchers! There will also be a draw for one $100 amazon.com voucher at each assessment point. The draws will be made by a constable from the Wellington central police station, New Zealand.

  • All survey respondents will be offered an option to opt-in to free wellbeing orientated courses after they have completed the first three assessments.

  • The study is voluntary, and you are free to withdraw at any stage before your data is collated at the end of your assessment. The results of this research will be published - but only in a form that ensures you cannot be identified, assuring strict confidentiality (you do not need to provide your name).
For the next intake in September 2010, as well as for future intakes, we are targeting yoga participants in particular, and thus it would be great if we could get as many people as possible to participate in this. Importantly, the “study code” for this specific population to input into this survey is “YOGA” which individuals type in at the beginning of the survey when prompted.

To participate and/or to find out more about the study, type (or cut & paste) the following address into your web browser: http://www.wellbeingstudy.com

The Leadership Yoga is pleased to announce the launch of its new website. The website is the leading resource on the integration of yoga and life management. It includes media features such as streaming video tutorials and downloadable audio classes. Other important features include two Sanskrit-English dictionaries: one of common yoga terms and the other of common postures, listing benefits and illustrating the poses.

These more traditional yoga resources are supplemented by vast amounts of information specific to personal and professional leadership. According to the website, yoga teaches, “Before you can lead others, you must first lead yourself.” For this reason, there is a vast amount of practical information that helps anybody develop his or her inner leadership faculty. From powerful new translations of ancient advice to methods for finding personal purpose, The Leadership Yoga is a one-stop resource for anybody aspiring to self-betterment. Combined, the various aspects of the site create a powerful learning ambiance for the practice and understanding of yoga and its influences on leadership.

“Often leadership is seen as something external, how a leader relates to her company, stakeholders, or competitors. This website is dedicated to the powerful idea that leadership requires no position or degree – it’s about self-control, not control over others,“ states founder Ravi S. Kudesia.

To help bring about this new paradigm of leadership, the website and the company behind it provide techniques that address the needs of body, mind, intellect, and being. Their stated goal is to “empower people and firms to achieve their higher aspirations.” The website is well integrated with social media and search engine optimized, bringing The Leadership Yoga experience outside of the site and onto the larger internet community. Its user-friendly ethos is designed to create a powerful browsing experience and allow the public easy access to information.

Lexington Healing Arts Academy’s (LHAA) second class of Yoga Teacher Training students will offer five dollar Yoga classes from August 16-October 2. These reduced rate classes are also part of LHAA’s celebration of September being named National Yoga Month by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services.

These classes are part of the students’ internship program. Classes are sc
heduled daily and will be Beginner level. They will be one hour in length and consist of basic breathing exercises, asanas, and relaxation/restorative poses. The focus will be on guiding the student toward more optimal breathing from the diaphragm, safe execution of the postures offered with assistance when needed, and poses to relax and rejuvenate.

This is a great opportunity for the curious to the regular practitioner to experience Yoga and meet future instructors in our community. Yoga adds to the quality of life by improving flexibility and strength, enhancing memory and attention spans, and increasing energy, self-acceptance and self-actualization to name just a few physiological and psychological benefits. Our regular Yoga classes, led by our accomplished instructors, will also be held at their regular scheduled times.

LHAA began their first Yoga Teacher Training program in October, 2008. This current class will graduate in October 2010. The 200-Hour program includes 180 classroom hours and 20 hours of internship leading Yoga classes. Amanda McMaine E-RYT is the Director of the program.

LHAA opened its doors in 1999 as a Massage Therapy School and Clinic and this year marks their 10th year of operation. To date, more than 550 students have graduated from the Massage Therapy Certificate program. In April 2008 LHAA expanded the campus to incorporate a new classroom building adjacent to the Clinic. The school continues to grow with the addition of a new Personal Fitness Training program. In addition to the certificate programs, LHAA offers daily Yoga classes, a Massage Clinic with student, graduate and professional therapists, and continuing education classes for the professional and holistic classes for the public. LHAA is located at 272 Southland Drive.

Vibram five fingers brings a new, alternative design for running, watersports, yoga and Pilates, which is like a glove for the human foot and provides the protection of footwear.

The barefoot design opens up possibilities for sports enthusiasts. Scientific research, coaches and athletes agree that with the feet bare, runners can actually improve their balance and stability. Barefoot ru
nning also improves speed, and compared to running with regular athletic shoes, it lessens the chance of injury. The Five Fingers line of shoes provides runners with the freedom to do this while keeping the feet protected. With a pair of Five Fingers shoes, watersports enthusiasts can benefit from its grip, performance, and control - especially for board-based sports. Some models of the line provide added perks for watersports, such as a 1.2mm neoprene upper to keep the foot warm in cold, fast-moving water.

With its revolutionary barefoot design, the Vibram Five Fingers shoes strengthen muscles in the feet and lower legs and improve overall foot health. Also, wearers can use the full range of motion in their feet, which is great for sports that need foot flexibility. Overall, the design gives its wearers' feet the kind of freedom that a normal closed shoe cannot give. http://www.vibramfivefingersreview.org
