FRIDAY, 23 JULY 2010
For the first time in Washington, DC, the Yoga Retreat for Women of Color™, sponsored by Core Connection Lifestyle, will be available to the public. On Saturday, October 23, 2010 join Maya Breuer, a renowned modern day yogini and yoga activist, as she teaches women of color how to rediscover self, tools for coping with stress, ways to integrate yoga into their daily lives and much more.
The Yoga Retreat for Women of Color™ has been designed to encourage each woman to take care of her body, mind and spirit all while exploring a variety of ancient yoga practices and creating a sacred sister circle for sharing! The one-day retreat will take place from 7:00am - 3:00am at Josephine Butler Parks Center located at 2437 15th Street NW, Washington, DC.
"The work that I do ultimately empowers women to take a personal approach to living,” says, Takeyah Young, Founder of Core Connection Lifestyle and author of 26 Tips for a Balanced Life: An A-to-Z Guide of Simple Ways to Live a Healthy Life. “I have attended retreats with Maya in the past and they have transformed me, so it only made sense to collaborate with her to bring the retreat Yoga Retreat for Women of Color™ to the DC area.”
Maya Breuer, a certified Kripalu yoga teacher and educator, created the Yoga Retreat for Women of Color™ in 1999 as an instrument to bring the practice of yoga and its benefits for health, healing, and rejuvenation to women of color. After many years of personal practice and living her yoga, she deftly weaves yoga and spirit together for Body and Soul.
“One of the great benefits of the retreat is that women of varying backgrounds and experiences can come together to focus on themselves, share with one another and leave with strategies and inspiration for nurturing body and soul,” says Young.
Special Guest, Maria Broom, from HBO’s “The Wire” and “The Corner”, will also be leading a dance segment during the retreat where she will share her background in yoga, meditation and dance therapy.
