In remote northwestern British Columbia, yoga and meditation have been thriving for a long time. People living in the backwoods have combined their own experiences with classical yoga teachings and meditation techniques. Now you can tap into this special flavour of meditation and yoga.
The Burnie Glacier Chalet sits in true, glorious mountain wilderness. Far from roads and industrial activity, it is accessible only by air or a strenuous two day hike. The lodge is at the elevation of a glacier terminus, yet surrounded by ancient forest. This is where you can practise yoga, meditation and also mountaineering, which is in itself a meditative exercise.
Your instructors are Jean Christian and Phillipa Beck. Jean has lived in wild and remote places for many years. Raising her children ten km from the nearest road, she learned meditation. Jean is also knowledgeable in herbal and homeopathic medicine. As a registered Homeopath, she has been a healer in this community for many years.
Phillipa Beck became a yoga instructor after stints as a journalist and publisher. She is a Certified Yoga Instructor and teaches and practices Hatha Yoga.
Christoph Dietzfelbinger is a IFMGA mountain guide who has built and operated the remote mountain lodge where it's all happening.
We offer week-long retreats to let you become fully immersed in the powerful mountain wilderness surrounding the lodge. Daily exercises will be interspersed with hiking and climbing to the degree you desire. Mountaineering, yoga and meditation will build on each other.
Excellent food, prepared on the lodge's wood cookstove, a wood-fired cedar sauna, and comfortable beds with duvets and bedclothes will round out your experience.
Monika Loschberger, our wonderful Austrian cook, will prepare the food on our original Amish wood cookstove. Monka can marry Old World attention to detail and quality with a preference for organic foods and lots of creativity.
