ASHTANGA- Ashtanga yoga is an ancient and traditional system of Hatha Yoga. Based on the teachings of Sri K. Pattabi Jois, it is composed of several specific sequences of postures that are linked through a series of connecting movements called Vinyasa. Vinyasa is the conscious connection of breath to movement both within and between postures. Ashtanga is a deeply vigorous practice which purifies and realigns the body, cultivates mental acuity, calms the nervous system, builds strength, and cultivates a feeling of inner peace. IYENGAR- Iyengar yoga teaches the postures through a deep awareness of correct anatomical alignment, breath control, and precise action in the body. The techniques of Iyengar yoga help refine your practice in a very specific manner. The poses and breathing techniques are structured and categorized in a way that allows a beginner to progress surely and safely from basic postures to the most advanced as they gain flexibility, strength and sensitivity in mind, body and spirit. Classes taught in the Iyengar tradition require sequential learning and therefore students are strongly encourages to attend Beginners classes, then gain competence at Level 1 prior to Level 2 and at Level 2 prior to Level 3.
- Beginners - These classes are designed for people that are new to yoga or have been away from yoga for an extended time or those who would like a review of the fundamentals. The focus of the class is on basic fundamentals of postural alignment and yogic breathing.
- Level 1 - Still basic instruction in the fundamentals of postural alignment and breathing for continuing beginning students. Basic standing poses, forward bends, backbends, twists, hip openers and other basics are introduced and practiced with close attention to correct alignment and energetic actions.
- Level 2 - These classes introduce more challenging poses and offer students the opportunity to explore yoga as a vigorous discipline involving the conscious balance integration of mind, body, breath and spirit. These classes offer expanded study of inversions and backbends. Students should have prior Level 1 experience.
- Level 3 - Advanced asanas and pranayama are introduced for students developing a home practice from a solid working knowledge of postures. Students should be proficient with inversions and be interested in doing deep, challenging and transforming work.
PILATES- Pilates was developed in the 1920's by German-born fitness pioneer Joseph Pilates as a complete philosophy of training both the mind and the body to achieve uniform precision and control. The essence of all Pilates work, the mat work is a series of floor exercises designed to create long, lean muscles, core strength, and breath control. As the class progresses together, the mat work becomes an aerobic workout. Pilates mat classes are not recommended for students with serious or chronic back injury. YOGA-TO-GO - The Academy of Yoga provides private yoga instruction at you place of business, or at your home. You can also schedule yoga for your business at the studio if no space available at your office.
