Baca St Yoga
Baca St. Yoga offers classes for students of all levels in asana (posture) and pranayama (breathing), special workshops with some of the world's finest teachers, and weekend intensives.
Yoga can provide each of us skills to improve health, foster serenity, and expand awareness.
All classes teach the Iyengar method of Hatha Yoga. This highly disciplined approach emphasizes a balance between strength and flexibility, builds endurance, and develops self-awareness through precision in movement and attention to subtle aspects of posture and breath, mind and spirit. We invite anyone, regardless of creed, color, size, flexibility, or age, to practice yoga with us.

All yoga at Baca St. Yoga is taught in the tradition of Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar. Iyengar's approach to yoga emphasizes alignment while developing strength, stamina, flexibility and balance. This approach incorporates the use of yoga props to help students achieve benefits and understanding of the essence of the yoga postures. Through our own experiences practicing and teaching yoga, we have found that the systematic instruction and focussed awareness characteristic of Iyengar instruction makes yoga safe and accessible to people of every level of health and fitness.
Class Levels All Levels are welcome to attend this class. First-time students are encouraged towards Beginner Level 1 or Level 1-2. Variations of postures are offered for different levels.
Beginner Level 1 gives the foundation to Iyengar yoga practice in basic standing, seated, and supine poses, headstand, shoulderstand, salutations (jumpings).
Level 1-2 teaches a deeper and expanded study of the standing and seated poses, head balancing, shoulderstand variations, and unsupported backbends.
Level 2-4 teaches a solid working knowledge of all postures, with emphasis on a regular practice of inversions and backbends. Some advanced postures will be introduced. Students should be developing a consistent, self-directed practice.
Gentle Yoga is intended to restore the body and refresh the mind. This class is appropriate for older adults, recent mothers and people seeking a gentler, slower approach to the yoga postures.
YOGA 101 is an introduction to yoga for complete beginners or students seeking a stronger foundation; a four-week-long series of six classes. Each series meet for four consecutive weekends and includes two classes from our regular schedule of classes. THIS SERIES WILL BEGIN THE FIRST WEEKEND OF OCTOBER and requires a PREPAYMENT of $40.
