Sky Lake Lodge
Sky Lake is a Shambhala retreat centre situated in Rosendale, NY, in 18 acres of secluded,
peaceful land, forested with cedar and white pine, and inhabited by birds, fox, deer and other
wildlife. Around the Lodge and on the adjacent Mohonk Preserve are extraordinary trails, taking in
mountains, ancient lichen-covered rocks and ponds. The Lodge has a peaceful, contemplative
ambience, yet is only a ten-minute drive from shops and excellent restaurants. Rooms sleep two or
four and are centrally heated, each with a private bathroom and access to a wooden deck.
the course
The main session (before brunch) will be a two-hour led astanga practice, followed by sitting
meditation. In the late afternoon there will be a shorter session of yin yoga. One afternoon will be
left free so that you can go out for the day, explore some of the beautiful walks surrounding the
Lodge, visit local shops and restaurants or just have a lazy time. Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy
sessions will also be available at reduced cost. The course is suitable for beginners with a good
level of general fitness through to those starting second series.
astanga vinyasa
Astanga vinyasa is a vigorous, flowing yoga practice consisting of a series of linked postures.
Much of the teaching is done through hands-on adjustment of the body. This is an energetic form of
yoga in which you will move dynamically and sweat.
the teacher
Ali Glenny has been practising yoga for 24 years and is a devoted astanga practitioner. While
maintaining the characteristic dynamism of astanga vinyasa, she encourages a sensitive approach
that honours the body and the emotions. Ali is accredited as a yoga teacher by the Yoga Alliance
and is also a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist.
